Keep the testimony of Jesus Christ with the fear of the Lord. Discern the testimony of Jesus Christ, especially in light of false teaching and heresy, with the fear of the Lord. We may not all agree on the specific interpretation or timing of the events in Revelation, but we can most certainly agree on the revelation of Jesus Christ.
John's letter to the church in Smyrna begins in Revelation 2:8. Through it, we glimpse a church that has persevered through persecution. Jesus informs them of further persecution and encourages faithfulness even to the point of death. As we stand firm in our faith on truth and love through Jesus, we should expect persecution, but also rest in knowing persecution is temporary.

Like the Jezebel of the Old Testament, the Jezebel in Thyatira encouraged godlessness in the name of godliness. Many had taken ahold of her false teachings and sinful practices, letting go of their salvation in Jesus Christ. The heart of Jezebel's false teaching is still alive today. We need discernment and confidence to stand on the truth of the cross, holding fast onto our hope in Jesus.

Salt, in the first century, was not just a seasoning but a vital preservative, symbolizing the preservation of faith and hope. However, salt can lose its effectiveness through dilution or contamination, just as our faith can be weakened by worldly influences and traditions that distract us from God's purpose.

In this week’s sermon, Allen Parrish from the elder team explores the importance of staying focused on Jesus, especially as we approach Easter. Using Luke 20:27-40, he discusses how the religious leaders of Jesus’ time lost sight of who He truly was—and how we can avoid the same mistake in our own walk with Christ.

Through examples of faith, distractions, and the power of daily devotion, this message reminds us that God calls us to focus on life, not death, and to walk by the Spirit rather than the desires of the flesh (Galatians 5:16-25).

Dive into the events leading to Jesus’ crucifixion—where love, betrayal, and obedience collide. As Jesus entered Jerusalem, he was met with both praise and opposition. His actions in the temple challenged the religious leaders, whose fear of losing power led them to plot against him.

Two preparations unfold:
• Judas —influenced by Satan—plots betrayal.
• Jesus —prepares to be the ultimate sacrifice.

Jesus’ instructions to Peter and John reveal a powerful truth: God had already prepared the way. Their obedience teaches us to trust Him, even when we don’t understand.

At the Last Supper, Jesus showed unwavering love, offering grace despite knowing betrayal was near. Are we betraying Him through sin and self-interest? Or are we embracing His love and grace at the table?

Pastor Ryan walks us through the emotional and spiritual weight of denial—denial of truth, of relationship, of identity, and ultimately of Christ Himself.

We explore the moments leading up to Jesus’ arrest, the betrayal by Judas, Peter’s heart-wrenching denial, and the mock trials that questioned the very sovereignty of the Son of God. Through it all, we’re reminded that Jesus did not deny us. He bore our shame, our rejection, and our guilt, so we could be restored.

Whether it’s fear, shame, or pride—what we deny often creates space for something else. The question is: are we making room for the Spirit, or for sin?

He’s not buried. He’s not forgotten. He is RISEN. He is Worthy of it ALL.

🌾 **The Bread of the Harvest**

In the field of Boaz, Naomi and Ruth find hope and provision. Boaz, recognizing Ruth's dedication, provides her protection, sustenance, and a place among his harvesters. This act of kindness symbolizes God's abundant provision when we align ourselves with His purpose.

🌾 **Gathering through the End**

As Ruth gathers barley until evening, she experiences the fullness of God's blessings. From provision to protection, Ruth's story illustrates that God's faithfulness endures beyond immediate circumstances. Whether in times of hardship or harvest, God's grace sustains us.

Join me in reflecting on how God's provision and faithfulness resonate in our lives. Let's glean hope from the fields of His promises and share His blessings with others.
What fills you with awe and wonder? Is it a sunset, a starry sky... or the Savior who sees you, heals you, and restores your soul? 💫✨

In this powerful message, Ryan Rosser reflects on a beautiful hymn from his a cappella roots and leads us into a deeper reverence for the One who frees us from what binds us — physically, emotionally, and spiritually. 💔➡️💖

From creation's beauty to Christ’s compassion, this message is a wake-up call to those who’ve lost the **fear of the Lord** and the wonder of His works. Are you crippled by something unseen? Do you need freedom? 🔓

"What Fears We Hold" challenges us to examine where our awe truly lies: in the chaos of the world, or in the power and presence of God.

Drawing from Psalm 46 and the Gospel accounts, we are invited to move from striving and accusation to stillness and faith, learning to rest in God’s sovereignty even when circumstances are uncertain or threatening.

Ultimately, the call is to cultivate a faith that is fully convinced of God’s promises, to be still in His presence, and to set an example of trust and courage for others.

From Afflicted to Encouraged

Life brings many afflictions—some that break our bodies, others that crush our spirits. Some hardships we choose, some are forced upon us, and some simply arrive like an unexpected storm. No matter the source, Satan would use these afflictions to harden our hearts, rob our hope, and keep us distant from Christ.

But God is greater.

In this message, we walk through **Luke 8:40-56** and explore eight common afflictions—worry, delay, suffering, denial, fear, loss, disbelief, and even death—paired with eight life-giving encouragements from Jesus.

You’ll be reminded that:

* Jesus listens.
* Jesus moves.
* Jesus is near.
* Jesus is powerful.
* Jesus is merciful.
* Jesus is not bothered by you.
* Jesus perseveres.
* Jesus is not stopped by death.

Whether you’re facing grief, waiting for breakthrough, wrestling with doubt, or fearing the end—you can run to Jesus. He welcomes you, walks with you, and speaks life into you.

**Church—get up!**
Be astounded by the power, love, and mercy of Jesus Christ.

We all long to be valued, known, and desired — and Scripture shows us how these needs are beautifully met in God’s design for love. From family affection, to the joy and messiness of friendship, to the holy gift of romance in marriage, Pastor Ryan reminds us that every form of love points us back to Christ.

Discover how affection grows in closeness, friendship grows in unity, and romance grows in longing and fulfillment. Learn how eros — often misunderstood — is more than physical desire; it is an act of worship, adoration, and intimacy that God designed as a reflection of His own love for His people.

Whether single, married, or searching for deeper connection with God, this message calls us to experience love the way God intended: with grace, gratitude, and devotion.

Dive into "Acts of the World," a powerful sermon based on Acts Chapter 5. This message explores critical themes of faith, deception, and divine intervention. We examine the story of Ananias and Sapphira, highlighting the dangers of spiritual unfaithfulness and the importance of genuine hearts. Discover how believers grew despite opposition, witnessing signs and wonders, and how God brings justice while offering redemption and healing. The sermon also addresses the trap of envy, as seen in the religious leaders' reactions, and the apostles' unwavering joy in the face of suffering. Learn to examine your heart, trust in God for healing, repent of negative traits, and boldly proclaim His name. The message encourages us to live faithfully, recognizing God's power in every circumstance.

This week at Saint Joseph Church of Christ, guest speaker Garren Holt continues our Early Church series with a message titled “Acts of the Witnesses.”

The Kingdom of God grows when disciples of Jesus bear witness to the faith (Acts 1:8). From caring for those in need (Acts 6:1–4), to standing firm in opposition, to Stephen’s bold defense before the council, we are reminded that faithful witness involves both words and actions.

Through Stephen’s panorama of the Old Testament — the land, the law, the promise of God’s presence, and the lives of Abraham, Joseph, and Moses — we see how all of Scripture points to Jesus, the only true Savior.

Just as Stephen bore witness even unto death (Acts 7:54–60), we too are called to stand firm, defend our faith, and proclaim Christ with courage and compassion.

Acts of Conversion

This week Pastor Ryan Rosser continues our Early Church series with a powerful message titled “Acts of Conversion.”

In Acts 8 and 9, we see how God transforms lives through the conversion of Simon the Sorcerer, the Ethiopian eunuch, and Saul on the road to Damascus. Each story reveals a different side of what it means to be truly converted — not just in action, but in heart, mind, and being.

True conversion isn’t about ritual or behavior change; it’s about transformation into the image of Christ. It’s guided by God’s Spirit, rooted in repentance, and lived out through faith and obedience. Whether through rebuke, guidance, or grace, God calls us to turn with Him — to be converted to Christ, by Christ, and for Christ.

Join us as Pastor Ryan explores what real transformation looks like and challenges us to ask: Where am I in that process of conversion?

As we enter the third Sunday of Advent, we contemplate the **Joy** that we have in Jesus, symbolized by the lighting of the pink candle. We read the story of the shepherds in Luke 2:8-11 and the angel's proclamation of good news and great joy for all people. This message of light breaking through the darkness reminds us of the constant joy that only Christ brings.

The message then explores the vital role of **The Elder** in the church. We learn that "elder," or *presbyter*, is an identity of a person mature in faith, with experience and commitment, not merely a title. This identity qualifies them for the role of *overseer*, appointed by the Holy Spirit to *shepherd* the flock of God. This shepherding involves serving with humility, teaching the gospel publicly and privately, and being on guard for the flock and themselves against internal dangers. The exhortation is to grow in wisdom and discipleship, enduring in faith and remaining grounded in the gospel of Christ.
